FINMARCHIA, Joan Blaeu (1662)When Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) published this map of Finmark in 1662, the area was part of Denmark. Unlike many of his colleagues, Blaeu had recent maps available since he had at his disposal the results of a recent topographical survey of the Danish Empire which was carried out under orders from king Christian IV in 1631.
