GALLAECIA | REGNVM, Willem Jansz. Blaeu (1635)This map of Galicia was published for the first time by Willem Jansz. Blaeu (1571-1638) in 1635. Later in the 17th century the map was reprinted a number of times for the purpose of the Atlas Maior of Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) in 1662. Willem Jansz. Blaeu based the map on a map by a publisher from Antwerp, Jan Baptist Vrients (1552-1610) from 1603. Vrients for his part had used a general map of Galicia by the Spanish cartographer Fernando de Ojea (deceased 1615) from 1602.
