1662 East Canada, North America

EXTREMA AMERICAE | Versus Boream, ubi | TERRA NOVA | NOVA FRANCIA, Joan Blaeu (1662)This map of the east of the current Canada appears in five atlases published by Joan Blaeu (1598-1673) between 1662 and 1667. The map is partly based on maps of the Dutch East India Company (VOC), Hessel Gerritsz. and the French cartographer Samuel de Champlain. From the title cartouche the importance of fishing for the area becomes clear.
