1640 Napoli, Italy

REGNO DI | NAPOLI, Joan and Cornelis Blaeu (1640)This map of the southern part of Italy was published in 1640 by the brothers Joan (1598-1673) and Cornelis Blaeu (1610-1642). The kingdom of Napels was at the time part of Spanish territory of the Habsburg Empire. In the right top corner the Spanish coat of arms can be distinguished. The map is further beautifully decorated with coats of arms of the provinces in the margins. As a source for this map Blaeu used an atlas by the Italian cartographer Giovanni Antonio Magini (1555-1617). His map book `Italia' was posthumous published in Bologna in 1620.
